This past weekend was the annual Poker Run in Kingston. The event was held at Confederation Park. I didn’t get to watch the boats take off as I already had prior arrangements earlier in the morning.
When I arrived there was an air train/castle, a locally renowned sketch artist and the usual “street meat.” In the center of the park there was live music from local bands with the common 30-45 minute set. I happen to check out “the bill” and noticed Kingston’s very own The Tragically Hip were playing at 6:30pm. So like anyone else would do, I went home for a couple of hours and had dinner. I made sure to check online that The Hip actually were playing (a free Hip concert, why not right?), Google directed me to a couple of links that said they were. In the end I was led to a Facebook page of theirs that also confirmed The Hip was playing. After I went back downtown, it wasn’t until the band was setting up and doing sound check when things didn’t seem to add up. I have met a couple of the guys from The Hip in the past and oddly enough the lead singer was the only one that had any sort of resemblance. So I Googled The Hip on my phone under images to find out that I wasn’t actually watching The Tragically Hip. The lead singer walked up to his mic and introduced himself as The Tracycally Hip. At this point I felt as if I had just been “Rick Rolled.” I went back and looked at the bill and sure enough, 6:30pm The Tracycally Hip. Even when I got home I checked my internet history to find that it was the cover bands Facebook page I had visited.
Anyhow, long story short, I’m glad I stayed. Tracy and the other guys were great. They put on a pretty good show to boot.
